Schedule Your Audio Visual Consultation in Birmingham
The first conversation with Iron City A/V is a free in-home consultation. We come to your house, walk through the spaces you want us to work on, listen to what you're trying to do, and give you a fixed quote a few days later. No pressure, no high-volume sales pitch, no upsell-of-the-week. The conversation is meant to figure out whether we're the right fit for your project — and if we are, exactly what the project will cost and how long it will take.
This page covers the three ways to book that consultation, what to expect during the visit, and what you can share with us in advance to make the conversation more productive.
Three Ways to Reach Us
Book online. The fastest path. Our HouseCall Pro booking widget shows real available appointment times, lets you describe your project briefly, and confirms the appointment by email and text. Most customers book this way — it takes about three minutes.
Call us. Call (205) 577-3124 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We answer the phone — when we can't, we return the call within a few hours. Calling is the right move for projects with timing constraints, complex scope, or any situation where you'd rather talk it through with a person before scheduling.
Text us. Text the same number (205) 577-3124. Faster than email, less commitment than a phone call. We respond throughout the day during business hours, and often outside business hours when something specific comes up. Texting is especially useful for sending photos of the space you want us to look at, asking quick questions, or coordinating timing for a complicated install.
Whatever path works best for you, we'll find a time within the next week or two for the consultation visit.
What Happens During the Consultation
A typical consultation visit runs 45-90 minutes depending on project complexity.
The walk. We start in the rooms you want us to work on. We look at the space — the dimensions, the construction, the existing wiring, the architectural constraints — and we ask questions about how you actually use the room. The walk is more important than any single piece of information, because what we see in the actual space tells us more than any phone conversation could.
The conversation. We ask about how you want the system to feel when it's done. For home theater projects, that means understanding what you watch, how often, who's watching, and what kind of experience you want — quiet evening movie nights, weekend football tailgates with a crowd, family movie marathons with kids. For smart home projects, it means understanding the daily rhythm of how the household actually lives. For whole home audio, it means understanding where music belongs in the day. The right system fits the household; the wrong system fits a marketing brochure.
The honest assessment. We tell you what's possible in your specific space, what's likely to work well, and what we'd push back on. If the location you want for a TV will fight with your room's lighting all afternoon, we'll say so. If the smart home brand you've been researching isn't the right fit for what you described, we'll say so. If a different scope would serve you better at lower cost, we'll say so. The point of the consultation is to figure out the right project — not to talk you into the most expensive version.
The next steps. We'll explain what the project would look like — what gear we'd specify, why, what the install timeline looks like, and what the project would cost. For simple projects we sometimes provide pricing during the visit. For larger projects we send a detailed fixed quote within a few business days. Either way, you have what you need to make a real decision.
What to Share Before the Consultation
The visit goes faster and produces a better quote when we have some context in advance. None of this is required, but each of these helps:
Photos of the space. Especially the rooms you want us to work on, taken from a few different angles. Wide shots showing the full room are more useful than detail shots. Photos of any existing equipment you'd like us to keep, replace, or work around are helpful. Text these to (205) 577-3124 ahead of the visit and we'll come prepared.
A short description of what you're trying to do. Even one paragraph helps. "We want a real home theater in our basement — about 350 square feet, currently unfinished, we watch a lot of movies and want surround sound" tells us more than the booking widget's standard fields.
Your timeline. If there's a specific event you're working toward — moving in, hosting a holiday, a wedding, a renovation deadline — let us know. We can sometimes accelerate work for real timelines, and we'll tell you honestly when we can't.
Your budget range, if you have one. We don't ask for this so we can spend more — we ask so we can recommend the right scope for your situation. There's a different right answer for a $5,000 project versus a $50,000 project versus a $200,000 project, and knowing the range up front lets us focus the conversation on options that actually fit.
Why Local Matters in Birmingham
Birmingham weather beats up electronics. Humid summers, big thunderstorms off the Gulf, power flickers at 2 a.m. that reboot your whole system. A national company that calls you from a service center in another time zone isn't going to help when something fails on a Saturday night.
Iron City A/V is a local home automation company, audio visual consultant, and home theater store in Birmingham. Same team on your project from start to finish. We live here. We know which neighborhoods have weak fiber, which older homes have plaster walls that eat Wi-Fi, and which new builds came pre-wired from the builder. That local knowledge saves you time and money on every job — and it means we're available when something needs attention.
We work across the Birmingham metro and beyond — Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills, Crestline, Forest Park, Homewood, Hoover, Greystone, Liberty Park, Inverness, Cahaba Heights, Trussville, Pelham, Helena, Chelsea, and Bluff Park. For projects in the Lake Martin area, Tuscaloosa, the Huntsville corridor, or the Gulf Coast second-home market, give us a call and we'll discuss travel and scope.
Ready When You Are
Whatever you're thinking about — a new home theater, a smart home buildout, whole home audio, motorized shades for the west-facing rooms, a commercial install at the office, or something we haven't covered on this site — start with the consultation. There's no commitment past that visit.
Or call or text (205) 577-3124. We'll find a time that works.
